These are all the drawings I did during the 24-hour Art Marathon!
I really wanted to try and do some old-timey dignified portraits of people you’d typically find in a carnival’s freak show. I’ve always been fascinated with the people back then who were forced into that sort of career because of their physical abnormalities or alternative appearance. I’m also very aware of the abuses that they suffered, and rather than show them on their carnival stages where they were dehumanized and seen as a spectacle, I wanted to show them as they are: just people.Amazing people with pride and confidence that deserved far more respect than what they were given.
Anyway, their stage names are in the captions, and I apologize for the quality of the first one, these photos were taken with a phone.
Two hours worth of sketches from my time in the natural history wing of The Rooms. I paid special attention to those eagles, haha, I was totally hogging the view of those beauties.
I really wanted to draw some of the crustaceans as well, but there were too many people around them. Next time, though!
It’s not the EXACT palette, I had to alter it because it was SERIOUSLY straining my eyes. For this palette challenge.
